Brett Willbanks has been practicing yoga since 2005. His training is unique in that he has studied both yoga and classical dance technique under the private mentorship of Maria Sobkow, a Certified Yoga Instructor, registered teacher-trainer with Yoga Alliance, and former member of the San Francisco, English National, London City, and Royal Danish Ballets companies.

In addition to his studies in yoga and ballet, Brett holds certifications from the American Council on Exercise in Personal Training and Group Fitness Instruction. He has worked with a diverse range of clients in private and public settings, blending yoga and fitness to help people safely and effectively maximize the body's potential.

Brett's yoga classes are geared toward dancers looking to improve physical strength and endurance, flexibility, and awareness of the body. His teaching includes aspects of Integral Hatha Yoga, Anusara, and Iyengar styles of yoga. A concise application of anatomical alignment, movement initiation, breath, and flow are emphasized to ensure the development of a safe and productive practice. Concepts such as standing evenly on the four corners of the feet, tracking the knees over the toes, turning out from the hip socket, and lifting up out of the pelvic floor will be found useful to yoga and dance students alike.

Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement," and class consists of moving from one pose to the next on the inhale or exhale. In Vinyasa, the movements flow together and become like a dance, making this style of yoga particularly suited for the dance community.
