Julie Bour

Julie Bour, a native of France, started training in ballet and contemporary dance at a very early age.
After graduating from the National Dance Conservatory in Paris, she started working as a soloist
with Angelin Preljocaj (Opera de Paris, New York city Ballet, Scala de Milan). She has been
awarded in NYC with a Bessie Award in 1997 for outstanding performance. She has performed works
of Maguy Marin, Dominique Bagouet, Carolyn Carlson, and Jennifer Muller. She danced with several
companies in Europe, traveled to Israel to work with Inbal Pinto Dance Company, and relocated to
North America a few years ago. Then she explored different crossovers (e.g.: through works like
Julie Taymor's Opera Grendel) and the theatrical aspect of dance. She started her own work and
is currently assisting Mr Preljocaj restaging Ballets around the world. Her class incorporates
all the different experiences she accumulated as a performer and assistant and will encourage you
to bring details and quality in any given choreography.
" Exploring new balances through energy and movement, students are
encouraged to define new counterweights necessary to support directional and level change.
Resulting in increased accuracy in speed and control, the goals of this class is to help the
dancer being specific and unique, to
allow him to form his own qualities within various choreographic styles and
phrases."
Class Description
The purpose of this class is to actively encourage interaction between one another, to give dancers new tools and opportunities to transfer and share their weight. Using counter balance, rolling, falling, suspension and lifting to design contemporary sequences of movement in which both motion and form will be in response to a partner. We all know the floor is our partner, but not the only one...
