Ethan Brown

belilove Born in New York City and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Ethan Brown hails from a true dancing family. His parents, Isabel and Kelly Brown, and sisters, Leslie Browne and Elizabeth Laing,  were all members of American Ballet Theatre. After receiving his early training from his parents in Phoenix, he returned to his birthplace to study at the School of American Ballet for a period of six years. He joined the corps de ballet of A.B.T. in 1981 and was promoted to the rank of Soloist in 1988 before retiring from the company in July of 2004.

During his twenty-three year career with A.B.T., Mr. Brown received critical acclaim dancing Principal roles in a variety of classical, contemporary, modern, and jazz ballets, performing in nearly every ballet in A.B.T.'s repertoire during that span. He has performed the works of, and has worked personally with, such choreographers as George Ballanchine, Antony Tudor, Jerome Robbins, Agnes de Mille, Martha Graham, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Twyla Tharp, Jiri Kilian, Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham, Roland Petit, Mark Morris, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Kevin McKenzie, John Neumier, Glen Tetley, Ben Stevenson, Eugene Loring, David Parsons, and James Kudelka.

Several years before retiring from dancing, Mr. Brown established a successful career within A.B.T. teaching Company Class, Studio Company Class, and A.B.T. Open Classes. He has guest taught with Maryland Youth Ballet, Columbus Youth Ballet, Pacific Coast Academy, Grand Valley State University, Blue Lake Fine Arts Dance Camp, and Ballet Academy East. He has judged ballet competitions for Youth America Grand Prix and presently teaches at the School at Steps in New York City.
