Vicki Fischer-Jenkins
Dance Training: Vicki began her formal training in her native state of New Jersey at the County College of Morris under Joanne Staugaard-Jones. She has also studied at Alvin Ailey and STEPS. She graduated from the New School for Social Research where she studied psychology.
Performance/Company experience: Since 1997 Vicki has been a performer with the Jette Performance Company and traveled across the U.S. doing performances and lecture demos with the company. She has also danced in music videos for the group Speedraceer, which was broadcast on London MTV, and has done industrials for Becton Dickenson Pharmaceuticals and King Central. A SAG member, Vicki has appeared on such shows and movies as Sex and the City, Educating Max Bickford, Swimfan, Death of a Dynasty, and Mona Lisa Smiles.
Choreographic Experience: Her work has been showcased at STEPS, Dance Space inc. the Hope house benefit concert in NJ and Lincoln Center's Reel to Real series. She has also choreographed Fit Kids with Denise Austin and choreographs many award winning routines for schools all over the U.S.
Teaching: Currently, Vicki is concentrating most of her time teaching at the School at STEPS, Inspira Performing Arts and Cultural Center, and New Jersey Dance Academy. Traveling often, she has taught for the Hawaii International Dance Festival, American Academy of Ballet, Dance Steps in Malaysia, and guest teaches at many others across the country and Canada.
Other Relevant Experience: Vicki is the founder and managing director of Stepping Stones; a performing arts consulting company for individual artists and studio owners. Stepping Stones develops an individualized path for each artist to help guide their way through the entertainment industry.
Class description:
As a teacher her dynamic and unique styles enables her to reach dancers of all ages and levels. Whether she is teaching jazz, modern, or tap her classes are structured to heighten awareness of body movements. Her classes begin with a thorough warm up that has a strong emphasis on technique and control. She believes in individual attention and gives corrections often. The warm-up is followed by an across the floor that consists of a series of turns and jumps. The class concludes with a combination that can range in style from modern jazz to funk, focusing on personal style and musicality.
