Lesley Lockery
On Broadway, Lesley's work appeared in Tommy Tune Tonite! at the Gershwin Theater. She has
choreographed special routines for The Manhattan Rhythm Kings, as well as Tony Award winner
Helen Gallagher.
While working for Lee Theodore, Lesley choreographed for The American Dance Machine and worked
with fellow choreographer Robert Tucker on the Dance concert American Snap.
Film audiences have seen her choreography in the film Miss Firecracker starring Holly Hunter
where she was the tap consultant.
For television she choreographed special material for the Dr. Ruth Show dealing with teenagers
in the performing arts.
Lesley choreographed the Off-Broadway revue It Feels So Good to Be Alive as well as the cabaret
show Judy in Concert. In regional theatre she created new choreography for Anything Goes at Tulane
Summer Theatre and, as well as choreographing, she was the assistant to the director of La Cage Aux
Folles at the Showboat Dinner Theatre in Tampa.
Her industrial work includes an industrial film for Polygram Records as well as a Japanese
industrial for Geoffrey Beene.
Lesley has taught tap classes at Steps on Broadway in NYC for ten years and Lee Theodore' - The
American Dance Machine, and at the New Dance Group.
When not choreographing she teaches master tap classes in New York City and has also been a guest
instructor throughout the U.S., Japan and Europe.
Description of Class
Lesley's tap dancing emulates the styles of our classic Broadway & Hollywood movie musicals!
Style: Tap with theatre dance movement . . .This class has a unique style that varies from jazz to Broadway musicals to movie musicals.
Technique: Emphasis is on the articulation of sounds, including how to "tone and color" the taps, how to use the body in connection with the footwork, and most importantly, how to use the body and footwork in relationship with the floor.
