Michael McFrederick
McFrederick
is a graduate of San Jose State University and the Juilliard school where
he studied piano with Josef Raieff, composition with Stanley Wolfe and
conducting with Vincent La Selva. Michael McFrederick's current musical
activities include composition, singer/songwrititg, arranging and producing.
He also plays concert piano in styles ranging from classical to jazz.
He has been rehearsal pianist for American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet,
Martha Graham Dance Company and was Musical Director for the Doris Humphries
Dance Company. He has performed and had his own compositions performed
at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall and he wrote the score for Lee Theodore's
Second Story Ballet for American Dance Machine. He has won piano
and composition awards from the NEA and Artists International and a piano
award from Gina Bachauer.
He recorded an original composition Four
Instrumental Compositions with the New City Ensemble for the Golden
Age label, a solo piano recording of selections from the work of Mario
Castelnuovo Tedesco for Orion and for his own label Catalystia, he will
shortly be releasing Linda Hopkins' newest work and a classical ballet
class music tape.
At Steps he plays for ballet class in an eclectic style
ranging from lush romanticism through blues to jazz. He also plays for
modern dance, tap and musical theatre classes.
