Rene' Sonne received her Bachelor of Performing Arts in dance performance from Oklahoma City
University. She is a member of Dance Masters of America, American Federation of Television
and Radio Artists and Actors Equity Association. Her choreography has been seen all over the
nation and has received many accolades including Young Choreographer of the Year in 2000 and
Choreographer of the Year in 2002 both awarded by the American Dance Awards. A few of the
musicals she has choreographed include Mame, The Music Man, The Wiz, The Velveteen Rabbit,
and he Cracked Nutter ( a tap and hip hop version of the Nutcracker). Rene' set the more
traditional Nutcracker for JulieDance in conjunction with the Dontesk Ballet and has also
served as assistant choreographer for dozens of musicals. Rene's choreography has been seen
in dance ensembles, music videos, childrens theater and childrens show choirs. For the past
13 years Rene' has dedicated her life to teaching children, she has taught master classes all
over the country, taught for many studios, and has continued her own studies in choreography
and technique. Rene' now serves as a judge for the Showstoppers national dance competition circuit.
On the stage Rene' has performed in dozens of musicals including the national tour of Joseph
( Mrs. Potiphar and understudy to the Narrator), Crazy For You (Polly Baker), Grease
(Patty Simcox), My One and Only (Edyth Herbert), The King and I (lead dancer Simon of Legree)
and in Jerrys Girls (herself!). Her film, print and TV credits include: Sometimes They Come Back
(Stephen King), As The World Turns, national commercials for Tyson chicken, Macys and an
international print ad for Hallmark cards.
Rene's class focuses on technique, self-esteem, and finding the easiest and funnest way to
learn new dance vocabulary. Her class emphasizes performance and story telling through
movement and encourages students to dance out of their comfort zone.
