Robin Tribble has been part of the New York tap community for over twenty
years. She led her own company, Tap Express, for three years, performing at the
Hudson Guild, Context, Downtown Dance Festival, LMCC's Busker's Fare, New
Jersey/First Nights, and National Tap Dance Day. Robin was a member of the American
Tap Dance Orchestra, directed by Brenda Bufalino, where her choreography was
included in company repertory. She was one-half of the duo "Tribble &
Morrison" with partner Margaret Morrison, with whom she also produced some of the
city's first community tap jams at the old Tapworks studio and at Woodpecker's.
Robin recently created the tap choreography for New York Delhi Mix, directed by
Janaki Patrik, featuring a mix of Kathak and tap dance, at the Kaye Playhouse.
Robin studied tap extensively with tap master Brenda Bufalino and with other tap
greats including Buster Brown, Pat Catterson, Honi Coles, Steve Condos,
Charles "Cookie" Cook, and Chuck Green, among others.
Class Description
Robin's classes are formulated on learning to tap beautifully through the art
of listening, through musicality, and through a use of mind, heart, spirit,
and physical energies. She teaches how to use stillness to shape notes, rests
to create rhythms, space to shape forms, energy and weight to create movement
and sound. The nitty-gritty of mastering tap technique, from weight shifts to
shuffles to complexity, is the substance of each class.
