Andrea Del Conte is the founder and
artistic director of Danza Espa=F1a, one of the most popular Spanish dance
companies in the United
States. With a diverse repertory rich
in flamenco dance tradition, this ten-member ensemble, under the careful
guidance of Andrea, has developed programs, which bring to American
audiences the essence of Spanish dance, music and song, with emphasis on
the relationship between the components of flamenco. Choreographers from
both Spain and the United States
have created works for the repertory, thereby continually adding fresh
artistic insight and inspiration.

Classical Indian dance has inspired many choreographers including Bob
Fosse, Denishawn Dance Company, and the father of Theater Jazz, Jack
Cole. Learn about the power of pli=E9, perfect head, neck and torso
isolations. Learn about the intricate hand gestures (mudras) and their
meaning.
Guru
Bichitrananda Swain
has emerged as one of the leading Gurus in the new generation of Odissi
dancers. An exceptional performer, instructor and choreographer, he is a
multifaceted artist who possesses a rare, in-depth understanding of this
ancient art form.
He served as Principal and Chief Instructor at the OrissaDanceAcademy for 15
years, having groomed a number of talented young artists into some of the
world’s leading Odissi dancers. Sri Swain founded Rudrakshya in
2001 to develop and promote new works in Odissi dance, while
simultaneously serving as a platform for young artists to showcase their
talent.

The Lab Series will provide an
opportunity for artists from all venues to experiment with the elements
necessary to create a specific and unique work of art. The creator will
be able to "test" the results by receiving CONFIDENTIAL,
written, feedback from audience members on their perceptions of, and
reactions to, the work.
Labs are held in the Steps Studio Theatre with minimal production
support.
