SUMMER PROGRAMS

AUDITIONS FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 09/10 PRE-PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

Steps on Broadway has formed a partnership with JASA's Westside Senior Center to present a series of performances in their Cultural Arts Series.

JASA's mission is to sustain and enrich the lives of the aging in the NY Metropolitan area so they can remain in the community with dignity and autonomy. A variety of social services, counseling, classes and a meal program are provided to the seniors.

Upcoming fall performances in the series include:

• 9/2 - Excerpts from Celebrate Dance (Steps Repertory Ensemble)
• 10/25 - Tapping with the Metzger Brothers (Steps & The School at Steps)
• 11/4 - Music Concert (Steps Musician)

Karen Gayle's (Steps & SAS Modern Faculty) company, xodus dance collective, will be performing at the Inside/Out Dance Festival at Jacob's Pillow on Friday 8/7. Full evening concert followed by Q&A. The company will also be performing in the Dance Gallery Festival at the Ailey Theater, 9/11 & 9/12 and in the American Dance Guild Festival at the Manhattan Movement Arts Center Theater 9/10-9/13.

Matt Williams (SAS Theater Dance Faculty) was selected to choreograph for the world premiere of Steven Schwartz's (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell) first opera, S=E9ance on a Wet Afternoon scheduled to open at Opera Santa Barbara on 9/26. Learn more. . .

Kate Thomas (SAS Director) was selected to choreograph for this year's New Choreographers on Pointe - Previews. Her contemporary ballet, Appalachian Suites Project, is a collaboration with violinist/composer Mark O'Connor. The selected works will be presented on Sun, 9/13 at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Joan Weill Center for Dance, 405 W. 55th St.

Lonne Moretton (Steps & SAS Ballet Faculty) has been invited to present his newest ballet in the 92nd Street Y's 75th Anniversary Celebration - Marathon 75. Immerse yourself in a weekend of dance as more than 50 artists kick off this anniversary celebration. Each hour features a group of five choreographers. Admission is good for one full marathon day; seating on the hour. Lonne's piece will be presented on Sat, 10/10 between 4-5pm.

Burn the Floor, the sizzling Latin and Ballroom dance spectacular that has thrilled audiences around the globe, is on Broadway for a limited 12-week engagement. See the show The London Independent calls, "Extraordinary! So hot it contributes to global warming. Burn the Floor will take your breath away!"
