The STEPS REPERTORY ENSEMBLE, the resident contemporary dance company of Steps on Broadway, commissions internationally acclaimed choreographers, both established and emerging, to create new works and to re-stage repertory for the company. Company members, ranging from 10-12 dancers, hail from all over the world and are selected by the Artistic Director, Bradley Shelver through audition only.

The Ensemble performs at all Steps Beyond’s in-house performances, in and around New York, and tours internationally. Their annual showcase, Celebrate Dance is presented each year at the Ailey CitiGroup Theater in New York City. In 2010, the Ensemble traveled to South Africa to perform two nights with iKapa Dance Theatre, a contemporary dance company in Cape Town, and to teach dance to children in the surrounding townships. In 2011, they were guest performers in the NYC Festival of Dance Schools; took part in “The Table of Silence Project”, a ceremonial performance choreographed by Jacqulyn Buglisi as part of the 10th anniversary of 9/11; were selected by BC Beat, a Broadway choreographer’s industry night, to perform a piece commissioned by Cherice Barton. Other performances in 2012 and 2013 include Jacobs Pillow, Dumbo White Wave Festival, REVERBdance Festival, “Destiny Rising: A NYCDA Foundation Gala” at the Joyce Theater, and the Periapsis Music and Dance Festival.

Auditions for the Steps Repertory Ensemble are held annually when needed. The selection committee is comprised of Steps faculty, guest choreographers and the Ensemble Director. Applicants should be at an advanced level in ballet and contemporary styles and between the ages of 19 and 25 with a minimum of 3 years professional experience.

Ensemble members receive unlimited classes, opportunities to work with world-renowned choreographers & perform and tour throughout the year.
