Between Classes 7.18.2019

July 18, 2019

Don’t get caught at the barre not knowing the latest news! Between Classes is your ultimate guide to all things arts and pop culture. Every Thursday, you can expect a total rundown of the latest happenings and we’ll provide you with the best weekend plans. Let’s get started, shall we?

This weekend, get ready for a crazy heat wave! Grab a cold drink, and take a seat at The Shed’s Commissioned performance of Dragon Spring Phoenix Rise, an immersive martial arts and dance piece, celebrating Asian culture combined with modern dance.

Emmy Nominations are out, and the dance community is taking over! Between the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE return and World of Dance, dancers are taking over the small screen and doing it with grace! Fascinatingly enough, Fosse/Verdon was snubbed. Andy Blankenbuehler’s fresh takes on Fosse’s iconic work did not make the cut for Outstanding Choreography this year. Stay tuned to find out the winners!

The Golden Age of Musical Theatre is returning and dancers worldwide are rejoicing! Casting was just announced for the revival and the movie of Jerome Robbins’ glorious West Side Story. The show that embodies New York City is back in a modern and revolutionary adaptation.

That’s it for this time! See you next week.
