The Red Shoes, playing New York City Center from October 26 – 5 November. Based on the classic Powell and Pressburger film with music by Bernard Herrmann, The Red Shoes is a beloved fairytale and Academy Award-winning movie, that has inspired generations of dancers with its tale of obsession, possession and one girl’s dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Since its world premiere in November 2016, it has gone on to sell out theatres across the UK and win two Olivier Awards for Best Theatre Choreographer and Best Entertainment.
Thrilling, audacious and totally original, Matthew Bourne’s legendary production of
Swan Lake transforms one of ballet’s best-loved stories into a stylish, witty, poignant, contemporary tale. Perhaps best-known for replacing the traditional female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, Matthew Bourne blends dance, style, humour, spectacle, character comedy and mime to create a provocative and powerful Swan Lake for our times. Collecting over thirty international theatre awards including three Tonys, Swan Lake has been acclaimed as a landmark achievement on the international stage.
The grit, energy and passion of Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man is loosely based on Bizet’s popular opera (Carmen) and has one of the most thrilling and instantly recognizable scores in New Adventures’ repertory, brilliantly arranged by Terry Davies. The familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy garage-diner in 1960’s America where the dreams and passions of a small-town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger. Fueled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.
