Missouri State University Theatre and Dance Department offers a BFA Dance Option, BS in Dance, and dance minor. The BFA offers a comprehensive and professional training in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance. The dance degree track maintains high standards in practical dance training, technique and composition work by emphasizing the often overlooked aspects of dance including business and teaching. You will explore your own personal interests and define your professional goals in the field of dance. This comprehensive program provides advanced dance training in modern, ballet, jazz and tap. Specialty courses are offered in partnering, improvisation, West African dance forms, musical theatre styles, and pointe. Performance opportunities include fall and spring dance concerts, dancing in musicals and productions at Missouri State, as well as local and regional productions. The Bachelor of Science in Dance is designed to allow you to combine dance studies with other degree options (a minor or a second major) while maintain a rigorous training program in technique, choreography, history, pedagogy, dance science, and other dance related topics. The dance minor is a program that combines your love of dance with a broad range of majors.
Azaria Hogans is an Assistant Professor at Missouri State University and covers an array of classes including contemporary, jazz, contact improvisation, dance history, composition, and West African dance forms. She has presented and performed works both nationally and internationally. In her passion for education, she has brought the art of dance to local schools including Putnam High school in Putnam, Georgia and Lee Elementary School in Denton, Texas through community outreach programs and residencies. She is currently the Manager of Resources and Archives for kNOwBOX dance, a digital dance company. Azaria has published articles in the Dance Education in Practice (DEip) journal, the Journal of Dance Education (JODE), Dance Teacher Magazine, and Dance Magazine.
