Department of Dance
Slippery Rock, PA

The SRU Department of Dance offers the only Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in dance degree programs in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The university is situated in beautiful western Pennsylvania and is located one-hour north of the Pittsburgh cultural district. The faculty offers a diverse range of technique courses, including contemporary, improvisation, contemporary partnering, ballet, jazz and classical Indian dance. Students may audition for two resident dance companies: SRU Dance Theatre and Palenque Afro-Colombian Dance Ensemble.

The BA in Dance is a rigorous program that provides a comprehensive dance education that is compatible with other academic disciplines for students who desire a double major. The professionalized BFA in Dance degree program provides an excellent dance education with advanced training in performance, choreography, and teaching, along with elective areas of focus in business administration, wellness, and dance technology. Dance BA or BFA majors can obtain a Master of Science in Adapted Physical Activity (offered by Physical and Health Education) through an accelerated 4+1 program. This innovative collaborative program is designed for dance majors who want to expand their credentials to integrate inclusive classrooms into dance, health, and wellness programs for people of all ages.
