Anyone entering the building, riding the elevator, or checking into class must wear a mask.

Students and Faculty who are NOT Fully Vaccinated OR cannot show proof of vaccination

Update 4.9.2021 12:00pm
We are thrilled to finally be reopening Steps on Broadway on April 12, 2021! It’s hard to believe that it has been over a year since we were forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your health and safety will be our priority as we reopen. As such, we will be rolling out our In-Studio classes in phases to allow everyone to understand our new registration requirements and safety protocols. Please take a moment to review our Active Health & Safety Plan which is based on the latest guidance from the CDC, the New York State Department of Health and the New York City Department of Health.

Beginning April 12, we will begin offering two In-Studio classes per day, Monday-Saturday. Visit our Reopening Page for more information!

Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to Steps on Broadway. We are so excited to begin to move beyond this pandemic and to see you in our studios!

Please continue to stay safe and keep dancing!

Update 3.18.2021 5:15pm

You may have heard the announcement today that indoor fitness classes (which includes dance classes as defined by the city) in NYC can restart on Monday, March 22, with limited capacity. Read the NYTimes article here.

This is exciting news! Now that we have received the go ahead to reopen, we are finally able to get an inspection by the city, which up until this point we were not allowed to schedule. Once we have been inspected, we will be able to roll out a schedule for restarting each of our programs as quickly and safely as possible. From the recent survey of our dancers, we know that you agree with us that ventilation issues in our studios are a concern. We have been working with experts for a few months to address the challenges we face in an old building with different HVAC systems.

We will be rolling out our return to Steps in phases, with our Conservatory and Youth Programs being invited back onsite first. Conservatory students will be hearing directly from Mindy Jackson, Director of Professional Training Programs and Youth Programs parents and students will be hearing directly from Pam Levy, Director of Youth Programs, with additional details. Questions specific to these programs should be directed to Mindy and Pam respectively.

We will continue to keep you updated via email, our website, and social media. We also want to assure those of you who are not currently in NYC that our intention is to offer both livestream and completely virtual class options even after we reopen the studio.

We look forward to welcome you back to the studio soon!

The Steps Management Team

Update 8.27.2020 1:00pm

As summer winds down and we approach the start of the school year, we want to give you an update about what’s happening at Steps. As you know, it has been over five months since we closed our doors to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic and launched our virtual programs. We miss seeing you every day in the studio! But we greatly appreciate your support of Steps and your participation in our virtual classes. We love seeing you dance on Zoom, watching the videos you have shared online, and receiving your wonderful feedback about your classes. We are particularly thrilled that so many of you from across the globe are able to take class!

Many of you have reached out to ask when Steps on Broadway will be re-opening our doors to the public. The quick answer is that we don’t know yet. We are awaiting new guidelines from New York City, which will affect our reopening plans. You may have noticed that some of our teachers are now teaching their online classes from Steps. We have worked hard to create a clean, safe environment for these teachers in order to provide you a better online experience. Our virtual classes will continue once we re-open so that you can continue to take class regardless of whether you can make it to Steps.

When we are given the green light to reopen, your safety and comfort will be our top priority. We will be transparent in what changes we will need to make, and you will receive ample notice, information, and instructions on how these changes affect you. Everyone here at Steps wants nothing more than to see our community thrive, and we are working diligently behind-the-scenes to make that happen.

Please continue to monitor our website and your email for further updates. We encourage you to keep dancing and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the studio. Meanwhile, be safe and stay healthy!

Thank you,

Joe Lanteri, Executive Director

Update 3.20.2020 5:30 pm

The Steps team wanted to reach out to remind you that we are thinking about all of you during this rough time and we know that dancers are resilient and that we will bounce back stronger than ever.

Based on the new recommendations from the Governor, we will remain closed through April 12, 2020

As before, we will extend the expiration date on all classes and packages to ensure our clients have plenty of time to use them and any special events and workshops scheduled during this time will be rescheduled for a later date.

Update 3.15.2020 12:00 pm

Since its founding in 1979, Steps on Broadway has been more than just a dance studio. It is an internationally recognized community of artists, committed to the cultivation of individuality and talent, to the joy, the work, the focus, and the abandon of dance. As artists, we know that dance, music, and theater have the capacity to soothe and strengthen. We have left our doors open this past week to provide a refuge for our community of dancers to gather and do what they love best.

That is why it was so hard for us to make this decision. In an abundance of caution, we have decided to suspend all classes and special events at the studio beginning at 7pm on Sunday, March 15 through Sunday, March 29. All classes and workshops scheduled for Sunday, March 15 will take place as scheduled with the exception of the COLLAB Workshop with La Duca Shoes which will be rescheduled for a later date.

We will be extending the expiration date on all classes and packages to ensure our clients have plenty of opportunity to use them.

All workshops, including Spotlight, Pro Work Sessions, and Professional Performance Workshops, will be rescheduled and Steps will email those customers directly.

Our first priority is always the health and safety of our community. This continues to be a rapidly changing situation, which we are monitoring closely. Please keep an eye on our website and your email for any further updates. We encourage you to keep dancing and we can’t wait to welcome you back to the studio. Meanwhile, be safe and stay healthy!

Thank you,

Joe Lanteri, Executive Director

Carol Paumgarten, Founder

Update 3.13.2020 4:30 pm

Update 3.13.2020 9:00 am

We continue to monitor the situation regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and would like to share the following updates with our community:

  • Until further notice, we are reducing capacity of the studios by 40% to address the need for social distancing.
  • Spring Break for the Steps Conservatory Program has been moved to next week beginning on 3/16 and extended to 3/29.

We will continue to update our website daily and send updates via email. Please check both places regularly. Your health and safety are our priority and we appreciate your understanding as we make necessary adjustments.

Update 3.11.2020

Dear Steps Family,

We are committed to the health and safety of our community. Out of an abundance of caution in regards to the ongoing changes with the COVID-19/Coronavirus situation, on Friday, March 6 we instituted a new facility cleaning policy. We have added extra measures to our nightly cleaning protocol, including disinfecting doorknobs, classroom props, exercise mats, and ballet barres. Additional hand sanitizer has been added throughout the studios, and sani-wipes are available in every studio and at the front desk.

In addition to these cleaning protocols, on Saturday, March 14 all of Steps on Broadway’s facilities will be deep-cleaned and sanitized.

Steps on Broadway adult open classes will continue to take place for the time being. The Steps Youth Programs and Steps Conservatory are suspended until Sunday, March 15. Please check this web page and your email regularly for updates.

Please be mindful of your fellow students:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cough into a tissue or your elbow (not your hand). Then throw tissue away and wash hands.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.

We will continue to monitor the progression of COVID-19/Coronavirus and will make any necessary adjustments based on the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the NYC Department of Health. We will continue to post regular updates as circumstances develop – please be sure to check your email and our website.

Thank you,

Joe Lanteri, Executive Director
