Motique Ashleigh

Motique began dancing at the age of three, after watching her big sister attending dance classes saying "I can do that". Her training led her to win titles in multiple regional and national dance competitions. She won numerous scholarships with Joe Tremaine as well as assisting Frank Hatchett in NYC. She also had the opportunity to perform in Broadway Dance Center's Showcase, choreographed by Michelle Barber. Out of the entire state of Pennsylvania, she was one of ten chosen to attend the prestigious Governor's School for the Arts.

Professionally her dance career has taken her around the world. Motique began by performing as a lead singer/dancer on Holland America Cruise Lines. She then performed in regional theatres across the United States for ten years. While performing in Florida she had the opportunity to step off the stage and on to the baseball field, to sing the National Anthem for the Minnesota Twins on several occasions.

Some of her favorite shows include Cats, Footloose, Grease, 42nd Street, Gypsy, A Chorus Line, and West Side Story. She joined the National Tour of The Pajama Game, stopping in 75 cities. Two International tours brought her to China and Turkey, performing Fame and Grease. In addition to performing, Motique has choreographed professional productions.

When not dancing professionally, Motique enjoys teaching dancing and fitness. She has instructed dance for over ten years at levels from beginner through professional. She also teaches Zumba and aerobics in Manhattan.

Class Descriptions:

Zumba combines elements of dance with calisthenic techniques to create a fun, high-energy fitness experience. After a brief warm-up, students will learn several choreographed dances. These dances, performed to a series of recent hit songs, mix elements of jazz, hip-hop and Latin movements to create a unique and rewarding exercise experience. The instructor focuses on correct technique, while maintaining a pace and energy level conducive to a high-level aerobic workout. Zumba is open to dancers at all levels, and is especially recommended to those looking for an enjoyable and unique fitness experience.

Advanced Beginner Tap builds upon the skills developed in Beginner's Tap: exploring the fundamental steps of tap dance, learning tap terminology, and developing correct body placement. Class begins with a warm-up, followed by across the floor movements which will later be incorporated into the final combination. The class will focus on the development of correct tap technique, with an emphasis on clarity of sound, increasing speed, body placement, and the development of simple rhythms. Advanced Beginner Tap is appropriate for students of all levels, but will most benefit those who have completed Beginner Tap.
