In-Studio Class Information

Effective March 13, 2023, Steps on Broadway will no longer require proof of vaccination for students, dancers, and visitors. Masks are optional but maybe required in some classes.

Effective Immediately

The health and safety of the dance community remain our first and foremost priority. All students (6 months and older), staff, faculty, administration, and visitors to 2121 Broadway must show proof of vaccination. Masks are optional in Steps on Broadway’s open class division, the Conservatory Program, and Steps Academy Divisions. Some teachers may request that a mask be worn in class. Please be sure to check the schedule.

March 4, 2022

Effective March 7, 2022 Masks are now optional in Steps on Broadway’s open class division, the Conservatory program and in the Steps Academy Divisions with the exception of classes with children under the age of five. Everyone in the building ages five and older are still required to show proof of vaccination. Some teachers may request that masks be worn in class. Please be sure to check the schedule and any notes.


August 17, 2021

The “Key to NYC” was launched on August 17, 2021. This initiative requires employees and patrons, 5 years and older, of Steps on Broadway to show proof of vaccination against Covid-19 to enter the building. Effective Immediately:

  • People ages 5 to 12 are required to show proof they have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, and people 12 and older must show proof of two doses (except for Johnson & Johnson recipients)
  • Steps will be required to check vaccination status for customers and workers (Acceptable proof of vaccination includes CDC-issued vaccination card, photo of your vaccination card, the New York State Excelsior Pass, and the NYC Covid Safe App, which allows those vaccinated out of New York State to show proof of their status.
  • Individuals who cannot present proof of vaccination along with an official government-issued ID will not be permitted in the building.
  • Masks (Full Face Coverings- NO MESH) will be required while dancing, entering, and exiting the building.
  • You MUST pre-register for all In-Studio classes.  You will not be allowed into Steps without already having pre-registered and purchased your class online.
  • Classes will not be available for purchase onsite at Steps. No Exceptions.
  • ALL K-12 students are required to wear a mask.
  • Our café and boutique will not be open at this time. To purchase Steps branded merchandise, please visit our online boutique.

Given current breakthrough of the Omicron variant, any customer who is vaccinated and is experiencing any symptoms that are associated with Covid-19, is strongly encouraged to stay home and get tested.

GENERAL

What are my options for taking classes?
Beginning April 12, 2021, we will have two options for taking classes.

In an In-Studio class, dancers are participating in the class in the studios at Steps on Broadway.

In a Virtual Steps class, all dancers are participating virtually allowing the instructor to provide feedback and corrections. For additional FAQs about virtual classes, please visit our Virtual Steps page.

How old can I be to take class at Steps on Broadway?
You must be 12 years old for all adult and professional classes.
How can I stay up to date on new classes or changes to the schedule?

The best way to stay up to date is to sign up for our email list and to follow us on social media @stepsonbroadway.

Can I book a private space rental?
Yes, You can request a rental using this form or by getting in touch with the front desk.

IN-STUDIO CLASSES

Do I need to be vaccinated in order to take class at Steps?
Mayor DiBlasio’s “Key to NYC”, was launched on August 17th, 2021. This initiative requires employees and patrons, 12 years and older, of Steps on Broadway to show proof of vaccination against Covid-19 in order to enter the building. The enforcement of this initiative begins on September 13, 2021. Steps on Broadway will begin enforcing this initiative starting September 1, 2021.
Am I required to purchase my class in advance, or can I just show up at Steps like I always did?
All dancers are required to pre-register and purchase In-Studio classes online prior to arriving at Steps. Registration closes 30 minutes prior to each class. Dancers who arrive at Steps without having pre-registered will be asked to leave.
Can I cancel an In-Studio class and receive a refund?
You may cancel an In-Studio class up to 24-hours in advance of the class start time and receive a refund. We are unable to offer a refund for In-Studio classes if you cancel within the 24-hour window prior to the start of class.
Do I have to wear a mask?
As of July 27, 2021 the CDC is recommending that vaccinated and non-vaccinated populations wear masks in indoor locations in high transmission areas. New York City’s number of cases is on the rise and is in level “orange,” As such:

Acceptable face coverings must be worn at all times covering the nose and the mouth, unless an individual is eating or drinking. Bandanas, buffs, gaiters, and masks with valves are not acceptable face coverings. Face shields may only be used by individuals who are unable to medically tolerate an acceptable face covering. Steps will supply disposable face coverings at no cost to anyone who is onsite at Steps. Face coverings must be cleaned or replaced after use and may not by shared. Individuals should avoid direct contact with others, including hugs, handshakes, kissing, high fives, and any interaction that would compromise six feet of social distancing. Individuals should avoid touching surfaces with their bare skin, if at all possible. The sharing of food is highly discouraged.

What safety measures have you put in place?

What time should I arrive for class?
Please be sure to arrive for your class no earlier than 15 minutes before its scheduled start time. Steps on Broadway retains the right to deny entrance to any dancer who is late for class without a refund or class credit.
Can I use the hallway to stretch before class?
No. Please come prepared to dance. You will not be able to use the hallway space to warm up.
I am a professional dancer, is there a discount?
Yes, we are now offering a special membership for Union/Pro Dancers which gives them access to special class pricing and packages. If you are a current member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, AGVA, AGMA, or have a current professional contract, please complete this form to apply for membership.
Will the dressing rooms be available?
Yes. Dressing rooms and bathrooms are open. Showers are closed. We encourage you to come dressed to dance.
I couldn’t get into the class I wanted to take, is there a wait list?
No. Due to the limited capacity for our classes we are unable to offer a waitlist at this time. We hope to offer waitlist in the future.
I ARRIVED LATE TO CLASS. CAN I STILL GET IN?
No. We cannot admit dancers into class once the class has started.
I HAD UNUSED CLASSES ON MY ACCOUNT. HOW CAN I USE THEM?
Anyone with unexpired classes in their account as of 3/15/20 when we closed has the ability to use those classes through December 31, 2021. There are no refunds.
