The Steps Conservatory Program is specifically designed for the dancer preparing for a professional career in either the concert or commercial dance world. This program offers intermediate and advanced dancers, ages 17-24, a two-year curriculum based intensive program designed to strengthen technique and artistry, through study and performance, while providing an introduction to NYC’s professional dance community.
At Steps, this dance community is comprised of our world-renowned faculty, guest artists, company artistic directors, industry professionals, and today’s elite and upcoming dancers. In the studio, students in the Steps Conservatory Program dance alongside seasoned veterans from concert dance companies, such as New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Complexions, and Martha Graham, as well as the opera, Broadway, and the commercial dance world.
This audition-based program offers two courses of study: Ballet/Contemporary and Theater Dance/Jazz. Students must take a minimum of 15-18 classes per week. Each student, with the guidance of the Program Director, will design an individual course of study comprised of mandatory and elective classes, as well as specific workshops and classes created exclusively for the program. The goal of the program is to prepare each student to enter the professional dance world as a well-trained, versatile, multi-disciplinary artist. Upon the successful completion of the program, students receive a certificate from Steps on Broadway and a network of professional contacts.
*Steps on Broadway is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant students.
