Merit Scholarships

The Steps on Broadway Academy Merit Scholarships provide exceptional dancers with an opportunity to pursue training in the Pre-Professional Division of the Steps Academy in NYC. Each scholarship reflects a distinct value within our Academy culture — from technical excellence and artistic promise to perseverance, leadership, and positivity. These awards are intended to both honor achievement and invest in the continued development of students who embody the standards of the Steps on Broadway Academy. 

To receive a Merit Scholarship applicants must: 

  • Be entering Grades 6 through 12 for Fall 2026
  • Be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Be able to attend classes 6 days per week, September 2026 through June 2027, in New York City
  • Be available for callbacks June 1 & 2, 2026 in New York City
  • Submit the online application by May 1, 2026

Solo Dance Video Notes: 

  • Must be 2 – 5 minutes in length
  • Can be multiple clips or one continuous dance
  • Can include multiple styles of dance but not required
  • Can be choreographed by the applicant or an established instructor/choreographer

The Dance Excellence Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional technical achievement, artistry, and dedication to their training. This scholarship recognizes dancers who exemplify a strong work ethic, curiosity, and a commitment to growth. Recipients maintain a standard of excellence across classes, rehearsals, and performances. 

The Carol Paumgarten Scholarship honors a student who reflects both artistic promise and meaningful contribution to the Academy community. Awarded to a dancer who demonstrates integrity, generosity of spirit, and respect for the collaborative process, this scholarship celebrates those who uplift others while pursuing their own artistic development. The recipient embodies professionalism, humility, and a deep commitment to their training. 

The Promise Scholarship is awarded to a dancer who shows exceptional potential for future growth. This scholarship supports students whose trajectory indicates significant artistic and technical development, even if they are still in earlier stages of proficiency. Recipients demonstrate focus, perseverance, and a readiness to embrace challenges as they continue to refine their craft.

The Sunshine Scholarship recognizes a student whose positivity, resilience, and consistent presence have a transformative impact on the studio environment. Awarded to a dancer who brings energy, optimism, and encouragement to their peers, this scholarship celebrates those who contribute to a supportive and inspiring community.
