Countertechnique enables dancers to find freedom, joy, and expansion within challenging movements. The practice of staying present, moment to moment, is one of the key elements that drew me to this technique, and something that makes it so special and effective. It calls on the individual to work with one’s own body, not an imagined or aspirational version of it, and to make autonomous choices that will help you in each movement. Nothing is fixed, and for me that provides an entirely new lens to experience dancing from. The aim of my class is to build community, challenge the individual, and encourage a deep and endless growth one can access from Countertechnique’s unique practice.
