DeWitt Fleming
DeWitt Fleming Jr. is a world renown tap dancer. Currently he can be seen in the Broadway show A Wonderful World: The louis Armstrong musical as Lincoln Perry and is the show’s tap dance choreographer. He has toured the world as a featured dancer with Riverdance, Cirque Du Soliel, and has danced as a soloist with Grammy award winning artists such as Alicia Keys, Wynton Marsalis, and Bobby Mcferrin to name a few. He was also featured on the Emmy award winning show Boardwalk Empire, America’s Got Talent, and the award winning documentary Steps of Freedom: The Story of Irish Dance. Some favorite roles include Daddy Bates in NY City Center’s The Tap Dance Kid, Jelly Roll Morton in the National Black Theater Festival’s production of Jelly’s Last Jam, where he was the tap choreographer, Simon in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Ozzie in The Scottsboro Boys. He was awarded the Dancer of the Decade Award from Broadway World, The American Tap Dance Foundation’s Hoofer Award, and the NYC Flo Bert award. DeWitt has taught all over the world including NYU and Pace University in New York City, and at Limerick College in Ireland. New York Times says he is, “a non stop source of rhythmic variety and surprise….sparks seem to fly from those shoes!” He made history by recording the first live jazz album featuring tap dancing at Jazz at Lincoln Center Dizzy’s Club. He also is the proud owner of DeW It Right Tap Mics: Microphones for tap dance, and a proud Capezio athlete.
