Karla Puno Garcia is the first Filipina and woman of color to choreograph the Tony Awards (76th Annual). Her work is seen in the opening number and Joel Grey/ John Kander tribute as a duet with Ariana Debose and Julianne Hough.
Karla recently choreographed the 76th Annual Tony Awards Opening number and tribute to John Kander. She co-choreographed Days of Wine and Roses at the Atlantic Theater and the Starz Network series Power Book III: Raising Kanaan. Other credits include additional scenes in the Netflix film Tick, Tick … BOOM!, directed by Lin Manuel Miranda; ENCORES Off-Center production of Gone Missing; Somewhere at the Geva Theatre, the new Duncan Sheik musical Noir at the Alley Theatre; Other World at Delaware Theatre Company; and In the Heights at Virginia Rep.
A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Karla has worked with Kyle Abraham, Bridget Moore, and Dwight Rhoden. Karla was a swing in Hamilton (Broadway) for six years. She was seen in West Side Story (Broadway); Gigi (Broadway); Hot Feet (Broadway); Wicked (National Tour), Addams Family (National Tour); SMASH Season 2, SYTYCD Season 5; Better Nate Than Ever; Annie Live!, and more.
