Lesley J. Lockery Inspired by the American Movie Musical, Lesley & her sister Patricia have founded “NYC’s Dance Makers”, a non profit Musical Theatre organization which offers workshops, seminars & a venue to bring film choreography to the stage. Dance Makers’ mission is to preserve the choreography of Hollywood Musicals & Television Variety Shows by collaborating with original choreographers and industry professionals to reconstruct numbers placing equal emphasis on accuracy and integrity. On Broadway, Lesley’s work appeared in Tommy Tune Tonite! at the Gershwin Theatre. She choreographed the Off-Broadway revue It Feels So Good to Be Alive, the cabaret show Judy in Concert, Anything Goes, La Cage Aux Folles, TV’s “The Dr. Ruth Show”, a film for Polygram Records and a Japanese industrial for Geoffrey Beene. While working with Lee Theodore, Lesley choreographed for The American Dance Machine and worked with choreographer Robert Tucker on the Dance concert American Snap.

Film audiences have seen her choreography in Miss Firecracker starring Holly Hunter. Additional choreography credits include: The Manhattan Rhythm Kings, as well as for Tony Award winner Helen Gallagher.

Lesley has taught Tap classes at Steps on Broadway for over 10 years, Lee Theodore’s American Dance Machine, Marymount College, Tap Choreography Workshop at AMDA in NYC and has traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Japan, and Europe as a guest instructor.

As Artistic Director for “NYC’s Dance Makers”, Lesley recently engaged the company for a week long series of performances entitled “Gotta Dance” at the Hudson Guild Theater, NYC in June 2008 which received rave reviews.

Class Description:

Style: Tap with Theatre Dance Movement. This class has a unique style that varies from Jazz to Broadway to Movie Musicals.

Technique: Emphasis on the articulation of sounds, including how to “Tone & Color” the taps. Also, how to use the body in connection with the footwork, and most importantly, how to use the body & footwork in relationship with the floor.
