Russell Stuart Lilie

Russell Stuart Lilie was born in Florida and raised in California. He received training at Idyllwild Arts Academy where he graduated as a dance major in 2008 and received his BFA in Dance from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU in 2011. Upon graduating, he began to work with Shen Wei Dance Arts, most famous for choreographing the Opening Ceremony for the Beijing Olympics, where he has now performed in over twelve countries on five continents.

As a performer he has performed in museums (Metropolitan Museum and Guggenheim), art festivals (Art Basel in Miami and Hong Kong), opera houses (Koch Theater in Lincoln Center and Howard Gilman at BAM), and numerous proscenium non-traditional venues.

As a teacher, Russell has taught at Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Theater School, New York University, and Bennington College. He also teaches for the National Youth Dance Development in China, company class for Shen Wei Dance Arts, and at various elementary, middle, and high school programs in China and the five boroughs of New York City.
