Steven Sofia

Steven Sofia spent over 14 years as a performer and dance captain on Broadway and Broadway National tours. His credits include the original Broadway companies of Guys and Dolls (1992 Revival), Beauty and the Beast (Dance Captain) and Chicago. National Tours include Chicago (Dance Captain) and Kiss Me Kate. He also performed in the Jerome Robbins/Alan Johnson (director) world tour of West Side Story. He has done an abundant amount of regional work at such theatres as Papermill Playhouse, Walnut Street Theatre, Birmingham Theatre and Theatre Under The Stars. Steven has also made several television appearances including three Tony Award Ceremonies and Celebrating 100 Years of Broadway with Ben Vereen and Carol Channing and was also in New York City's Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. You can hear Steven on the cast recordings of Guys and Dolls, Beauty and the Beast and An Evening with Betty Buckley at Carnegie Hall. Steven spent over two years working with Robert Tucker at The American Dancemachine recreating and preserving the great works of choreographers such as Agnes DeMill, Bob Fosse, Gower Champion and Jerome Robbins to mention a few. He has worked and trained with Robert Tucker, Nenette Charisse, Tony Stevens, Randy Skinner, Karen Baker, Alan Johnson and most intensively with Chris Chadman. Steven has also been an assistant Choreographer for Tony Stevens and Chris Chadman. Steven received choreographic credit from Wings Theatre Company for their off-Broadway production, Dinner at Eightish and participated in Just Feet a showcase to introduce new and upcoming choreographers. Through his training and performance experiences, Steven has developed an excellent understanding and skill for the dance and choreographic styles that dominate the stages of musical theatre and concert dance. Steven continues to teach as a master teacher and faculty member at CAP 21, New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Musical Theatre Conservatory. He has also taught at for the Dance Department at Marymount College, Dance Space Center, Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center.
