Phil Colgan

Phil Colgan is a choreographer, performer, and dance educator born and raised in NYC. A graduate of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Phil won a pre-show on-stage dance contest at the Broadway revival of GREASE in 1997 and hasn’t shut up about it since.

Phil was the Associate Choreographer of NEW YORK, NEW YORK on Broadway, directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman (Outer Critics Circle Award winner for Best Choreography; Tony and Drama Desk nominations). A finalist for The Capezio Award for Choreographic Excellence and a recipient of The Emerging Theater Artist Award from The Theater Hall of Fame, Phil’s other choreography credits include JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR (The REV), the LGBTQIA+ reimagining of THE WIZARD OF OZ (Geva Theater), GREASE (The REV), CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (NYU Skirball); numerous music videos including “Days Gone By” by Midlake (starring Ted Lasso’s James Lance),  “Ready to Be Loved (Dance Remix)” and “I’m a Star (Dance Remix)”; and special events like BROADWAY BARES, including staging Nicole Scherzinger’s surprise performance of her hit song “Buttons” in 2025. Phil was also Associate Director/Choreographer to Joshua Bergasse for the new musical WORLD’S GREATEST LOVER that premiered at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

As a performer, Phil’s Broadway credits include & JULIET (Swing, Dance Captain) and HAMILTON (Charles Lee). Phil was also a universal swing across HAMILTON’s five North American companies, and spent two years as co-dance captain opening the show’s Philip Company national tour in 2018. Phil was swing & dance captain of the Off-Broadway premiere of Andy Blankenbuehler’s ONLY GOLD at MCC, and performed in shows regionally at Paper Mill Playhouse, Maine State Music Theater, The Fulton, Ogunquit Playhouse, Gateway Playhouse, and The REV. Phil has also performed with iLUMINATE: ARTIST OF LIGHT, in industrial and symphony performances, in the opening number of THE TONY AWARDS at Radio City Music Hall, and on TV in THE MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE and THE DREW BARRYMORE SHOW.
