Scott Thompson has won numerous awards for directing and choreographing some of Broadway’s brightest talents in over 100 productions nationwide. Scott directed Tony Award winner Betty Buckley in her first Gypsy, country music legend Larry Gatlin in The Music Man and Tony Award winner Cady Huffman in Damn Yankees. For the Library of Congress, he choreographed an all-star Gershwin Gala featuring four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, recording star Dawn Upshaw and Tony Award nominees Lara Teeter, David Garrison and Wanda Richert. His recent production of Sweet Charity for the Downtown Cabaret Theatre won the Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Best Musical and the production also garnered Scott the award for Best Choreography.

Scott recently staged all the musical numbers for the HBO documentary film Cathouse – a “reality” musical shot in a genuine, active brothel outside Carson City Nevada!

In 1996, Scott founded Austin Musical Theatre and served as its Producing Artistic Director for eight seasons, winning numerous Austin Critics Circle Awards for twenty large budget productions, including Oliver! (with Stephanie J. Block and Martin Vidnovic), Annie (with Ruth Williamson and John Leslie Wolfe), Peter Pan (with Jonathan Freeman), Fiddler On The Roof (with Lorraine Serabian and Armen Dirtadian), Man Of LaMancha (with Kevin Gray, Pamela Isaacs and Ken Page), A Chorus Line (with Jane Lanier and Paige Davis), Gypsy (with Pamela Myers), Jesus Christ Superstar (with Sean McDermott and Danny Zoli), Oklahoma! (with Kevin Earley, Noah Racey, and Anneliese Van der Pol), The Sound Of Music (with Mark Jacoby and Lauren Hathaway), The Wizard Of Oz (with John Bolton, Dirk Lumbard, Michael McCarty, Paul Ainsley, Wendy Robie), Sweet Charity (with Leslie Stevens), The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas (with William Hardy, Paty Lombard and Bob Fitch), West Side Story (with Donna Marie Asbury and Sebastian LaCause) and My Fair Lady (with LuAnn Aronson and George McDaniel). For his production of Dames At Sea at the Marines Memorial Theatre, Scott won the prestigious San Francisco Theatre Critics Award for Best Director, Best Choreographer and the show was honored as Best Musical. He also won the Los Angeles Ovation award for this production and then re-created it at the world famous Goodspeed Opera House.

His other regional credits include Amadeus, Babes In Arms, 42nd St, The Pirates Of Penzance, Bye, Bye Birdie, Cinderella, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Anything Goes! and She Loves Me. In New York he recently directed the workshop of the new musical Citizen Ruth, choreographed the workshop of Joel Paley and Marvin Laird’s Jewsical!, and directed and choreographed the highly acclaimed 2005 Gateway Playhouse revival of Sugar, the musical adaptation of Billy Wilder’s “Some Like it Hot” starring Larry Raben and Elizabeth Stanley.
